About St. John’s College Agra
St. John’s College, Agra was established in 1850 by the Church Missionary Society of England through the efforts of the Agra CMS Association which came into existence in 1840. The college’s first principal, Rev. Thomas Valpi French, a distinguished fellow of University College, Oxford, was a man of great vision and missionary zeal. At the time of its inception, the college designed its own curriculum and conducted its own examinations. From 1862 to 1888 the college was affiliated to the University of Calcutta and later to the University of Allahabad until 1927. With the formation of Agra University in 1927, the then Principal of the college, Dr. A.W. Davis became its first Vice-Chancellor and the college became affiliated to Agra University.
